Hi from France ! We need your advice... 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago

Hello all, this is a post from Paris FR,
We would like to attend a Goodguys event this year.
We usually go to the Sema Show in Las Vegas NV but as we are mostly interested in Hot Rods (and Muscle cars, street rods...), we intend to visit the Del Mar CA or Indy IN shows.
What would you suggest, taking into account the weather, the number and quality of car showed, of vendors, the atmosphere....
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Virginia
and Happy New Year !

Welcome, sounds like a long drive, I can't speak about Delmar but I have been to Indy and if vendors and car count/quality are the emphasis I would recommend the Columbus show. Indy has the speedway and other great sites though.

Thanks Rick, we will now consider Columbus !
It is a long trip indeed but it is worth the "pain" and the US are ideal to combine our love for cars, music, scenic views and nice people !

I have been to both, many, many times and if you had to pick between the two I would pick Columbus just for sheer numbers. Car count is about triple if not more and the number of vendors in Columbus blows Indy away. Weather in July is usually a tad warmer and dryer with the exception os last years downpour on Saturday. At least in Columbus you have buildings with vendors inside to escape from the rain or heat. In Indy there is NO WHERE to escape the weather. Night time cruzn action is superior at both locations. Hope this helps

Columbus is on my list-to-go for next year.
I frequently visit the All American Nats and two weeks later Del Mar.
Pleasanton and the bay area has a lot of nice spots for shop tours, like
Specialty Sales, California Classics, Arlen Ness, Moal HotRods, Brizio Street Rods,
the Black Hawk Museum, frequent Cruises and meetings and a lot more.
If you shop parts or cars, they are easy to ship from Oakland to Europe. ( Aladdin Freight ). San Franccisco is only 40 min. away, Yosemite Park is only 3 hours driving from P-Town.
On my way from Pleasanton to Del Mar I stop often at the Nettercut and Petersen Museum in LA. They are many rod shops and parts shops in the greater la area, if you go for a big shopping tour.
Goodguys Del Mar is nice. Its a beautiful fairground too. ( My favorite is Pleasanton...)
If you stay not at the Goodguys Del Mar Nats in th Hilton or Courtyard Marriott Hotel, in San Diego the Bahia Resort or Coronado are nice places to stay too.
During the Del Mar Weekend, ( ok, a couple days more..) it´s worth to visit in SD the Midway aircraft carrier, old town, gas lamp quarter destrict, coronado beach, sea word, the sd zoo and balboa park.
On my last Columbus Ohio visit , I cruised fom Columbus to the lake Erie and stoped at Summith Racing, Best of Show Automobiles, visited Lobecks Hot Rods and the rock and roll hall of fame in Cleveland, had a nice Race & Show weekend at the Norwalk racway and party´d a bit at Put-in Bay Island near Port Clinton OH.
Were ever you go in the USA, there are everywere nice sightseeing spots for hot rodder . . . .
Greet´s, Matthias / Frankfurt Germany.
